HOW TO USE THE TEMPERATURE TAPE
Trout Conservation
Why does water temp matter?
Knowing the water temperature has several advantages. First and foremost is knowing when it's too warm for trout. Once water temperatures rise above 72 degrees F, it's time to stop. Warmer water carries less oxygen and puts additional strain on the fish.
When trout are caught, played, and released in water that is too warm, their mortality rates skyrocket. Being a responsible angler means taking care of the resource and staying educated and aware of the environment we're in. Getting an accurate water temperature reading gives you the right information when you need it.
Another factor to consider are the many hatches that are determined by water temp. Keeping a close eye on that can help with your fly selection, and make a good day a great one by timing the hatch just right.
